Stoned and nestled comfortably inside while its nipple shatteringly cold outside? Its time to throw shy guy says on. Their floating/woven guitars, dream-like ambiance running throughout and subtle complexities call for a beautiful and engaging album. Oooooo!
There are a handful of albums that made a profound impact on the tone of my high school career; this is one of those albums in particular that will certainly tattoo its melodies into you for eternity (spin hohoho!!). Its put under the genre "dream pop" and it seems to be exactly that; catchy tunes conjured up in the world of a dreaming mind. The tones are so thick its like a haze of sound you will certainly get lost in.
A darkly entrancing, dripping beast of mystifying tones and haze, DenMother implants the vibes of a psilocybin fueled night under the dark and stormy sky, which you know you want.
Artist: DenMother
Album: Insides Out
Genre: Industrial/shoegaze
Really catchy, hazed dream pop that just makes your mind wonder elsewhere in a state of bliss and nostalgia. Fun fact: the band members have never met in person before; they just send each other ideas back and forth via internet.
One of those bands that has a name totally appropriate for their delivered sound. Holiday Shores is a hazy walk on the beach with nostalgia in mind teetering on dream territories.
Artist: Holiday Shores
Song: Airglow
Album: New Masses for Squaw Peak
Genre: dream pop/psychedelic/indie
So happy I came across this up and coming artist. Wintercoats is the creation of Australian violinist James Wallace. I am thoroughly impressed with this music; its dreamy, beautiful, yet uplifting music with lots of violin, an instrument I consider to be angelic and the most beautiful sounding of instruments along with the harp.
The Townhouses is straight up delightful and unique. The last.fm profile has this to say about his sound, "He wistfully mixes Tropicalia, Gamelan, African and Ambient soundscapes to create an experimental collage of breezy summer vibes." That is a bold and enticing description, and its a fairly accurate one. I love the instruments he uses such as xylophone, chimes, violin, etc.. along with his calm, soothing guitar tone and use of beautiful piano. Currently, all five of his releases can be found for download on his bandcamp.
I can confidently say that Swung from the Branches is my favorite ambient album of all time. Its perfectly constructed for a listen from start to finish with a perfect tone of a nostalgic, melancholy haze. There are a handful of songs that are more dream pop oriented, which is absolutely grand to me.
Seriously, how sweet is that name? Their name lives up to the sound they deliver; an acid soaked shoegaze album that is insanely dreamy and makes your mind float away in complete bliss. A lot of it has to do with the reverb/distortion they use with the guitar. Perfect little EP to dream away to.
This band has a sound to them that is absolutely beautiful. They kind of remind me of The Ruby Suns since they have this nostalgic sound reminiscent of The Beach Boys, but they take this and turn it into a dreamy, uplifting sound which is always leaving me in a joyous state.
