Planeta Imaginario

"Originally formed in 1999, PLANETA IMAGINARIO is a Spanish band from the region of Catalonia: their style is clearly oriented toward the jazz trend of prog rock, yet it is somewhat friendly to additional psychedelic touches and chamber adornments."  - last.fm            Thats right;  I just cut and pasted my description like a lazy shit.  What of it??   Anyway,  this album is absolutely enthralling.  Take the prog rock sound of the 70's with extra Floydian psychedlia, inject it with Badbadnotgood and BAM!  Planeta Imaginario.

DRUMS & TUBA

Drums & Tuba.  Yea, there are drums and tubas going on in this recording but so much more (guitars, loops, pianos, scratching and so much more!).  From trip-hop like vibes to post-rock esque build and peak structure, this album weaves you through various styles to take you to a mental landscape that is foreign to the senses but yet has an air of familiarity, nonetheless fun and fantastic in its true sense of the word.

Artist: Drums & Tuba
Album: Vinyl Killer
Genre: experimental

NATSUMEN

This Japanese octet features two guitarists, a drummer, a trumpet player, two saxophone players, a keyboard player, and a bass player conjuring magic from the depths of their souls to bring you mind bending  avant-garde jazz/post-rocky madness that moves from intense madness to classy beauty.  Natsumen has been a favorite of mine for years now; now delve into my obsession with me! Truly a one of a kind gem not to be missed.

GOD

For years I've been searching for this seemingly mythical album (flawless yet extremely rare) for years and finally coming across it feels like reaching the holy grail.  Fan of Godflesh, early Napalm Death and/or Jesu?  Well this is yet another one of Justin Broadricks many projects, and I must say it is without a doubt his most intriguing.  Industrial/free jazz/doom?  I personally have never heard of such a concoction.  If you have, don't just gloat you greedy fuck, share it with me!  GOD is heavy. GOD is free flowing.  GOD is entrancing.  GOD will smash you.

Artist: GOD
Album: The Anatomy of Addiction
Song: Voodoo Head Blows
Genre: industrial/avant-garde jazz/metal

Drunken Forest

There are those certain special bands out there who do absolutely what they want, how they want, and where they want it.  This is one of those bands.  Its a weird fusion of (at my best ability to label it) avant-garde jazz, and mathcore, with maybe a cartoon noise thrown in.  Once I heard the first song I knew I came across something special, why don't you as well?

Artist: Drunken Forest
Album: Drunken Forest [EP]
Song: Five Stages
Genre: avant-garde/jazz/mathcore

Repeat Pattern

Who likes jazzy hip-hop, aka "jazz-hop"?? I do!  Jazz is a great genre to encorporate into pretty much anything.  Hip-hop is obviously a winner.  At times I'll be listening to this and think, "do I have Adult Swim on tv in the background? To use a word I hate to use, this has a very "chill" vibe to it and would be great to wind down to with a big ol bowl.

Mr. Woodnote

I got filled with a lot of excitement and joy right once Mr. Woodnote's saxophone run dub ran through my ears.  All done by one genius of a man, its phat ass beats are done beat box style with jazzy saxophone jamming over deep dub bass lines with the occasional Rastafarian singer/rapper.  This is something to absolutely be bumped obnoxiously in your car.
