"Originally formed in 1999, PLANETA IMAGINARIO is a Spanish band from the region of Catalonia: their style is clearly oriented toward the jazz trend of prog rock, yet it is somewhat friendly to additional psychedelic touches and chamber adornments."  - last.fm            Thats right;  I just cut and pasted my description like a lazy shit.  What of it??   Anyway,  this album is absolutely enthralling.  Take the prog rock sound of the 70's with extra Floydian psychedlia, inject it with Badbadnotgood and BAM!  Planeta Imaginario.

There just simply is no other band who has conjured up such an adventurous and intriguing take on the genre of "post-rock" than these motherfuckers.  This album grooves hard at times, entrances in others with a surreal tone permeating throughout.  I can't recommend this enough; this album MUST be heard!

Pandit

There are a handful of albums that made a profound impact on the tone of my high school career; this is one of those albums in particular that will certainly tattoo its melodies into you for eternity (spin hohoho!!).  Its put under the genre "dream pop" and it seems to be exactly that; catchy tunes conjured up in the world of a dreaming mind.  The tones are so thick its like a haze of sound you will certainly get lost in.

I promise you have never heard hip-hop done in this fashion, but yet again that can be said about a lot of the artists of the Anticon collective/label.  Its hard to even say if this is hip-hop.  It's spacy as fuck; certainly not music to get pumped up to, but rather get lost in to a surreal mental state. The rapping(?) often verges into singing, but really its neither.  It was hard describing this 2001 jem.

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving

How the fuck did I forget about this band?  Brain broke.  Their sound is massive and intensely beautiful guided by sweeping ethereal pianos and driven by an extremely talented ensemble that will take you to the clarity of  being atop a mountain to the euphoria of a funky fungus on through to the moving intensity of waves crashing.  This is fantastic music right here that anyone can enjoy, from your friend who is too stoned to move to your parents who are stuck in the car with you. Dig!

Orchestral math rock?  Fucking right it is, and maybe you can't picture how it sounds, but works phenomenally utilizing the power of violin and xylophone; instruments generally unheard of in this genre. This is the rare kind of music that will catch the attention of anyone in earshot and has an undeniable impressive quality that can reach audiences far and wide.

England's answer to Eyehategod, and with a (slightly) less dumb sounding name!  I kid, I kid, but in all seriousness this band will tear you a new asshole.  Who says you need to have blistering speed to be the all encompassing description of 'brutal'? I say ney, as Iron Monkey does it with bluesy, hardcore punk inspired sludge riffs with enough punch to restart your grandmothers heart.
